What is an elephant?
In the
oxford dictionary it reads, an elephant is a very large gray or grayish brown
animal with a long flexible trunk, prominent ears, thick legs, and pointed
tusks. Something the dictionary doesn’t state is that these enchanting
creatures’ emotions seem like our own, so heartbreakingly close to human
sorrow, grief and happiness. Also that elephants are endangered and need our
help. Not only should we care because of their similar emotions but also
because of its effects on some countries economics and wellbeing, ethnics,
morals and because we strive to be global citizens. Elephants affect the economic wellbeing of
Kenya. Money from tourism brings in almost 900 million U.S dollars. A loss of
elephants means a loss of money in some places in the world. Killing for wealth
is unethical, elephants are sentimental and emotional beings with vast
knowledge that they pass on to their young. An elephant killed means a great
loss to the herd. It’s morally wrong to hurt elephants. They have the right to
life, who are we to dictate the importance of a species. Lastly as global
citizens we should be aware of the endangerment of animals and how these
animals play a part of society. There are those who might say that since the
elephant is not indigenous to their environment it does not have a direct
effect to them. This is a false accusation
because we coexist in a lone immense ecosystem and if one animal becomes
extinct it leaves an avalanching affect. In that an invisible scar on the
earth.
